Goodness with some bad thrown in

But you will enjoy what you find

A friend in the wine business once answered a question on how I could gain a discerning palate to know which wines go with which foods (red with meat, white with fish). His answer was simple "drink whatever tastes good to you, with what you are eating and forget what the experts say."I sat down to read Box of Chocolates by Deanna Repose Oaks with a nice Cabernet, not sure how it would go with the dishes that were on the menu.
To my surprise, Deanna' served up a wide variety of palate pleasers. She writes on every-day, seemingly monotonous task of emails and grocery shopping that had me reaching for a cold beer. "To My Daughters" and "We Will Get You" share some light-hearted topics like the giggles and smiles of her daughters and watching a puppy run around the room which seems more fitted for a light and fruity Pinot Grigio. But then the BOLD entrée arrived and I wasn't sure if my full-bodied cab could stand up to it. Her "Movie Night" poem is recent and relevant and I could see Deanna sitting down to write a frolicking poem about movie night that was suddenly interrupted by news of a recent movie theater tragedy.
As I sip the last of my bold red cabernet, I'll leave you with one of my favorite lines in Deanna's book in the poem "Who We Are" - So why is it that I question The very thing I have won And how is it now that I ask What have I done?
I'm no expert in poems, nor have I ever written a book review before. But I know what I enjoy and I think you would enjoy Box Of Chocolate with a glass (or two) your favorite nectar. It's sure to please your palate. BobM
